Coursework Assessment

The aim of the coursework assessment is to evaluate the student's performance during the course, and to help the student to study the lecture notes and references step by step and to avoid leaving revision until the last moment. Emphasis is also placed on practical assignments and project work. Course assessment has the following components:-

Quizzes
Assignments
Mid-Semester Examinations
Project Work
Oral Presentations

Terminal Examinations

Terminal or final examinations for most courses (some courses are assessed by coursework only) will be conducted at the end of each semester.

  • Most courses of the Program have a final examination of two hours duration.
  • To pass a course a student must achieve an overall mark of at least 60% when coursework and examination components are combined.
  • Referral may involve re-sitting an examination and/or submitting additional coursework. Students doing referred examinations will normally do so during the examination period of the next semester, referred coursework will normally be completed before the referred examinations by a date communicated in writing to the student.
  • A student is allowed a maximum of three attempts at a course in the Foundation Certificate and the Diploma and Associate.
  • Students who perform badly will be put on academic probation. If the student does not improve in the following term he/she may be advised to withdraw from the program on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.

Award Classification Levels (Grades)

The award grades for the Foundation and the Diploma and Associate certificates for students who pass the required courses will have an aggregate mark for classification purposes and will be computed as follows:

Mark Grade Points
90% - 100% A 4
85% - 89% B+ 3.5
80% - 84% B 3
75% - 79% C+ 2.5
70% - 74% C 2
65% - 69% D+ 1.5
60% - 64% D 1
Below 60% Fail (F) 0
RF or RCW * 0.5

  • RF = Repeat Final Exam only. RCW = Repeat Coursework only
  • The points for each course are multiplied by the credit hours. (Weighted Course Mark).
  • The average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the sum of the weighted course marks for all subjects by the number of credit hours.
  • The calculation does not include the units for which the student gets credit due to exemption base on admission with prior learning, but the subjects appear on the certificate with the word “Exempted”

In determining the level of award to be recommended, the provisions stated earlier guide the Board of Examiners, but have the power to take into account all relevant factors.

Academic Appeals

Students have the right to appeal against the result of a coursework or final exam assessment. Academic appeals must be made in writing to the Relevant Program Manager within one month of the announcement of the results. The academic appeal form is available at the Registrar office.

The Academic Board is responsible for dealing with and making decisions regarding academic appeals. The student has the right for a 15 minutes hearing in the presence of the Academic Board members. A family member or a friend may accompany the student during the hearing.

The Academic Board will decide the result of the appeal in a special meeting. The result of the appeal will be communicated to the student in writing. The decision of the Academic Board is final.

Suggestions & Complaints

The institute aims at maintaining a friendly atmosphere where students can study and develop a positive attitude. Students must not let small problems stand in their way and prevent them from making progress and enjoy their study at the institute.

A Student who encounters a problem with a member of staff is encouraged to solve the problem by talking directly to that staff member. This usually gives the best results and leaves no hard feelings.

Where the problem is not solved, the student must discuss the problem with the Relevant Program Manager or the Student Relations Manager, and if still no solution is found then the student must meet with the CEO and explain the problem.

A student may wish to write a complaint, deposit it in the Suggestions & Complaints box and remain anonymous.

Students may have useful suggestions for the institute regarding the Program contents, teaching methods, adding or dropping courses, learning resource Center, computer labs and network, student activities, or any other issue. Students are welcome to make these suggestions either by sending e-mail to the CEO, participate in the staff/student committee, or deposit a note in the Suggestions & Complaints box.

There are special prizes for useful suggestions from students.

Certificates

Computer College will issue each student who successfully completes the Foundation and Diploma and Associate program with a certificate in English language, bearing the marks and grades, which the student has obtained in each course, and the Award Grade.
